Car owners use the vMOT website to take an online vehicle
safety and road worthiness test, simply enter the car reg and
in real time the online test accurately predicts the
probability of the car passing its next MOT test, and for each
sections of the MOT test the probability of passing that
section giving insight into the cars safety, road worthiness
and reliability. Useful to know when buying or selling a car,
or as a pre MOT test before booking an MOT.
Customers can also select from a number of vouchers and
receive a detailed copy of their vMOT test.
Yes its free to use, there is no charge for the online vMOT test, prediction report or coupons
You can use your vMOT voucher at your local garage a list of garages can be found here Garages, contact your chosen garage and mention your vMOT voucher at the time of booking Q How does vMOT predict the probabilities of passing the MOT test.
The online vehicle safety and road worthiness test is powered by a patented service called vMOT, vMOT is an online vehicle safety and road worthiness predictor, that uses Artificial Intelligence to analyse 100’s of Millions of pieces car & demographic data to accurately predict in realtime from a car registration number the probability of a car passing the MOT test and the areas of a vehicle that are likely to require repair.

These percentages show you the likelihood of your car failing its MOT. It also shows you the fail probabilities for specific areas of your car ..brakes, steering, suspension etc this gives you an insight into your cars safety and road worthiness. On average 1 in 4 cars fail their MOT test, that’s a 25% chance so any car that has a greater than 25% probability of failing its next MOT is above the average fail rate. For example, a car with a 50% probability has a 1 in 2 chance of failing its next MOT test.
This slide shows the accuracy of the vMOT service, it compares the vMOT mot test predicted results with the actual MOT test results for 780,089 car's tested between 4 and 10 j 2021.
The horizontal axis shows the vMOT mot test predicted fail % and the vertical axis shows the actual mot test fail %, the orange dots represent the intersection of the actual and vMOT predicted results, the blue line represents where the orange dots would be if the actual and vMOT results where equal For example for the vMOT predicted cars with a 40% fail rate you would expect the actual number of these cars that failed their mot would be 40%,if this was the case then the orange dot would be on the blue line at the point where the two red lines meet. However, you can see from the slide that the actual number of cars that fail with a vMOT prediction of 40 % is 43%, this means that vMOT is underestimating the number of cars that fail by 3%, you will notice that the red dots are almost always above the blue line which means that for any given vMOT prediction we are always underestimating the % of cars that fail by 2-8%. The vMOT service works in realtime and is update with new data continuously, vMOT’s artificial intelligent learns from the new data and future predictions reflect what vMOT has learnt from new data.
